When it rains it pours, but the savage weather in northern New South Wales reached new heights Tuesday, lashing a line of gargoyles along the coast.

In a series of storms that formed along the lower central north coast yesterday afternoon, up to five gargoyles jumped up just outside Harrington and drained at the mouth of the Manning River.

Local resident Kirra Moffitt took a picture of the five gargoyles that form in the sea off the coast on Tuesday at around 4:30 p.m.

23-year-old amateur photographer Ms. Moffitt was editing photos on her laptop when she spotted the spills from the window of her house and ran to grab her camera.

« There were storm clouds all over the place, but I looked out the window and saw a stream of water behind a tree, » said Ms. Moffitt.

« I went to Pilot Hill (in Harrington) and suddenly there were five. It was so scary, but really amazing to see so many at once. »

The Bureau of Meteorology issued a severe weather warning for storms in the Mid North Coast region yesterday afternoon.

« The current trough along the New South Wales coast creates the perfect setting for a gargoyle, » said Ms. Woodhouse.

« All you need is a shower of rain and changing winds on the ocean surface, and we’re seeing pretty good rainfall in this part of NSW so a number of gargoyles can form. »

For large areas of New South Wales, there is more rain on the way as a cold front and trough run through it. In the coastal areas, possible thunderstorms and showers are expected until Friday.
