Next year’s Isle of Man TT could take place later in summer 2021 or be canceled entirely’

Mathewson’s first launch of the new campaign brought nine attempts to defeat Zebre on Monday, and the former All Black admitted he always looked north when stationed in Limerick.

« I was at Munster so I followed Ulster when I was there for their form in the Pro14 and in Europe where they really stood out, » said Mathewson.

« To get in the area and get to know the guys and see how hard they work and their skills, their work ethic, all of those things and how young they are, they are a lovely young group.

« The way you play and train, you want to get better and that’s really impressive. « .

« Talking to some people, Ulster hasn’t always had the depth it has this season. So it is good to see that they will be in good hands for the years to come. « . ”

Mathewson played 27 times for Münster and was impressed by the youth in the Ulster squad.

« For me it might be the age here, Münster still has some of the old boys, or they seem old and run around down there.

« You still have Pete (O’Mahony), Billy Holland who is really old, you have Earlsy (Keith Earls) on your back and Conor Murray in, » he said.

« So there is more of a mix of older and younger people. Here they are really young, but it’s a really enthusiastic group when it comes to wanting to learn. I think they are right at the top in terms of the extra skills and overall knowledge.

« You come to meetings and when a trainer asks a question, there are five, six, seven, eight people who can answer the question.

“What I really like about the guys here is that they want to get better. As I said earlier, the extra skill they have with the coaches means that we’re lucky here that Munster doesn’t have an indoor gym section where you have the ability to learn many skills, ”added Matthewson.

« Here we are going to do the gym, but in between we will train a lot of skills, here the skill game won.

“It’s very convenient to have this space to work. You can see it in the way the guys play. The strikers are very skilled here. ”

Ulster set its unbeaten record when the Scarlets visit Kingspan Stadium on Sunday night.

The Welsh Region is third in Conference B after winning three of their six games and losing three.

« Scarlets, you have a very dangerous back, you play great rugby, we have a lot of focus on ourselves again.

« If we can play the way we want to play, implement our style and schedule, it can go a long way towards achieving an outcome.

« We know that while scarlet has a lot to offer, we are also very focused on ourselves. « . ”
